Moving towards smart design, shapeable batteries constantly rising of interest. Using Tortech’s flexible mats as current collectors, as demonstrated in the video, enables to make this concept come to life.
In addition to the shapeable nature of the produced battery, replacing the metal current collectors also increases the specific energy, for the same energy lighter battery or for the same weight higher energy.
CNT current collector
By replacing the heavy metal current collector by a light weight CNT based current collector, one can save considerable electrode weight and dramatically increase the specific energy of the battery. Thus allowing to reach the same energy with reduced weight or reaching higher energies with the same weight.
Replacing metal current collector with a CNT current collector not only increases the batteries specific energy but also prevents corrosion problems since CNT is made entirely out of carbon and is chemically inert.
